Host a Food Drive
Hosting a food and fund drive is a fun and easy way to support Shalom Center! Individuals, groups and organizations of all sizes and ages can host successful food drives to help provide for those in need. If you have questions, please call us at (262) 658-1713.
1. Choose a date and location for your drive.
Food is needed year-round, so there is no bad time to conduct a food drive. Select a start date that allows sufficient time to organize, prepare and promote your food drive.
2. Choose a time frame for your food drive.
Single-day food drives can be very successful because the focus is on one particular day. Most food drives last about two weeks, leaving enough time for donors to remember their donations!
3. Select a prime location for your food drive.
High traffic areas where the collection boxes are visible are best. If you need collection boxes, please call us at (262) 658-1713.
4. Advertise your food drive.
Be sure to include all the important details: date, time, drop off location and that the food drive will benefit Shalom Center Food Pantry. Let people know about your food drive.
- Notify your followers through email campaigns, Facebook, X/Twitter, etc.
- Contact the local papers to let them know about your food drive.
- Put it in local newsletters, bulletins, and websites.
- Email your co-workers, fellow students, family, friends, and neighbors to rally support.
Customize and distribute our Food Drive flyer for people to donate. Shalom Center’s wish list of food items can be found on that flyer.
5. Start your food drive.
Download and print out the Donation Poster on this page. Place the poster near the collection point, so that donors know where to make their contribution! You may also create your own signs.
When people donate, thank them, and then ask them to share why they care with their friends and family. Ask them to use social media too!
Thank you for hosting a Food Drive! Please send us photos and highlights so we can share on Facebook.
If you collect a large amount of food (more than a minivan will hold) we may be able to arrange for one of our trucks to pick up the donated food. Simply call us at (262) 658-1713. Please note that we need several days’ lead time in order to pick up your donation.
If you’re dropping off the food, please bring it to our Warehouse/Donation Entrance (Door #8, entrance off 43rd St.) Monday thru Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm.
