Shalom Center Celebrated HOPE at their Annual Celebration Event
Kenosha WI, (May 4, 2023) The Shalom Center Annual Celebration took place on Thursday, May 4th at the Italian American Club in Kenosha. The theme of this year’s event was “Celebrate HOPE” to honor the unwavering spirit and dedication that has propelled the growth of the local non-profit.
The enjoyable evening included delicious Italian-American food, music by the John Crawford Jazz Band and plenty of socializing. Raffles, silent auction and a loud, but fun, “Balloon Pop for Prizes” helped propel Shalom Center toward their goal of raising $41,000 to benefit their ongoing food and shelter programs.
“Shalom Center was founded in 1982 by a small group of individuals who hoped to do one simple thing: feed those in need. Today we continue that mission of HOPE—Helping Other People Every day,” stated Tamarra Coleman, Executive Director.
The highlight of the evening was honoring Bradley and Jeanette Weinstock for their years of leadership, service, and support to the Shalom Center. With a generous donation from their son and daughter-in-law, John and Katherine Weinstock, an education room at the Shalom Center will be dedicated to them. The Weinstock Education Center will be available for after-school programs and tutoring for children residing at the Shalom Center.
County Executive Samantha Kerkman, KUSD Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Weiss, Senator Robert Wirch and Miss Kenosha Willow Newell were some of the local dignitaries attending. Strong community and business support, including major sponsorships from Snap-on, Jockey, Bane-Nelson, and Herzing University helped make for a successful event.
About the Center: Shalom Center is a 501(c)3 in Kenosha County serving as the only homeless shelter, largest food pantry, and longest running nightly meal program. Shalom Center is a community resource that provides housing, food, guidance, and support to individuals and families in need across our community. Our mission is simple: serve the community through food, shelter and supportive ways. We believe that this mission will help realize a greater vision: self-sufficiency by maximizing the potential of people we serve. https://www.shalomcenter.org/
